Duro
  • Film - Visual Communication
  • Creative  Direction & Photography

In this project I lead the visual communication for the film Duro, written by Francesc Cuéllar and directed by Bárbara Mestanza. The film is composed of standalone stories that explore different forms of gender-based violence, presented through a disruptive artistic approach: actors portray characters of the opposite gender. Men play women, and women play men. This role reversal invites a deep reflection on how power dynamics and conflict are perceived when traditional gender conventions are destabilized. From the perspective of creative and art direction, a visual campaign was designed to embody this symbolic and emotional inversion.
The main poster and the photo series created for the film’s promotion depict the actors in scenes of abuse or aggression, where the aggressor’s hands—female—represent the oppressive force. This aesthetic choice is not intended to reverse blame, but rather to challenge and disrupt the viewer’s gaze. The concept that underpins the entire visual narrative is that of suffocating silence—a visual and emotional metaphor that embodies the experience of silenced violence. Through powerful, unsettling, and poetic imagery, a visual universe was constructed to give form and presence to what so often remains unseen.
